WVBFPROSERIES World Championship Tour 2007 Marina di Ravenna 9-10 Juin 07 Presented by COCOLOCO The first leg of the WVBF Proseries Beach Volleyball World Championship took place very successfully in Marina di Ravenna (Ravenna Italy. The victory went to the team LAZARO MILAN CARVAJAL (CUBA) and the Catalan DAVID LLOP (ESP) who in the finals defeated the Slovenian pair PIVK-GRILC in two sets (21-15, 21-19) in a thrilling game in front of 3,000 spectators in a full stadium. A TV production was made and broadcast by SKY TV. The Slovenian team moved up to the finals after eliminating the Californian pair SAID SOUIKANE (USA) and ESTEBAN ESCOBAR (USA) in a perfect semi final (21-17, 21-19). The Californians obtained 3rd place by conquering the Italian-Brazilian team of PIERO ANTONINI (ITA) and JUNIOR JOZEMA (BRA). The Cuban LAZARO was nominated best player of this top level tournament. The Italian EMANUELE MONDUZZI, was eliminated together with OLIVER STAMM (AUT) on the qualification tournaments. A big audience of more than 8,000 spectators enjoyed the games as well as the entertainment led by a group of British dancers. « Marina di Ravenna has been the launching of the Proseries WVBF World Championship Tour, bringing together the athletes, the spectators, the volunteers, the officials and the media who all came in great numbers in order to participate in this Beach Volleyball celebration. » exclaimed Jean-Pierre Seppey, WVBF President who was present in Marina di Ravenna the whole weekend. This first leg in Ravenna gives the participants the possibility to earn the first points that will count towards the WVBF classification.
