« Ethics is our priority! » Dear friends of sports, The folly of the latest Tour de France cycling event has not escaped our attention: we are still not sure -at this very moment- if the rankings in the last two years of this great sport competition are trustworthy or not. Beyond the doping affairs, always scandalous, but yet unfortunately not surprising in themselves, the present state of professional cycling carries an important number of serious considerations, posing essential questions of society which are at the very heart of the reflections that have led us to constitute a new global institution at the service of volleyball and beach volleyball. In fact, the cheating of certain sports protagonists, the skimpy management vision which characterizes the action of certain sports leaders, is today moving the important media and huge sponsors to reconsider their commitment towards the athletes. Those that prefer “ostrich politics” concerning these questions will find themselves among the first to be responsible for the recoiling of sports in our societies. On our part -because responsible leaders have no other choice- we have chosen transparency in our policy as well as in our actions. We would like to see clean sports; for the global youth that prides itself on Olympic ideals; for all families that count on the educational value of sports; for our healthy athletes that deserve our full support; for our partner sponsors, who are in need of 100% support in communication that is both clear and moral; for our partners in the media, who evolve day after day, towards a more ethical and a more social treatment of sports information. The FMVB will support without any ambiguity the creation of a Swiss anti-doping agency, just as it currently supports the World Anti-doping Agency and all the existing national agencies. The FMVB will show itself ruthless in the application of its code of ethics -that I suggest you consult on our internet site, for it is a pioneer work in the matter. The FMVB will commit with all its energy and its professionalism in any project whose fundamental values align with its own, that is, the education of youth for sport, the sharing of peoples through competitions at all levels, and the accomplishment of a professional sports activity beyond suspicion. From where we stand, together with you, we engage in this major battle of the century: to bring ethics back at the heart of sports! Jean-Pierre Seppey FMVB President |
